Surgical outcomes of the minimum anterior and posterior combined transpetrosal approach for resection of retrochiasmatic craniopharyngiomas with complicated conditions.
OBJECT Retrochiasmatic craniopharyngiomas are surgically challenging tumors. Retrochiasmatic craniopharyngiomas with complicated conditions such as large diameter, major calcification, or significant extension to the third ventricle or posterior fossa present surgical challenges; moreover, recurrent retrochiasmatic craniopharyngiomas are particularly formidable challenges. Although the transpet...

Characteristic computed tomographic (CT) findings of craniopharyngioma include calcification, contrast enhancement, and cyst formation. Sharp margins associated with a hypodense centrum usually characterize the CT appearance of a cystic tumor. The appearance of "dense" cysts in craniopharyngiomas has not been emphasized. Four cases of craniopharyngiomas with isodense to hyperdense cysts are rep...

Although an increasing number of reports have appeared stressing the role of primary radiation fo...
متن کاملEndoscopic endonasal resection of craniopharyngiomas: a case series and review of the literature
Background: Transcranial approaches were historically the first established routes for craniopharyngiomas resection. Transcranial approaches commonly entail some degree of brain retraction as well as manipulation of neurovascular structures, located between the surgeon and the pathogenic region. A more direct route to the sellar -suprasellar region is provided by the transsphenoidal approach. I...
